Yes, Mount Saint Helens blew its top thirty years ago on this day. I wasn’t around to witness the event, but I heard it was a big explosion. Looking at historical imagery and documentaries, it’s still hard to comprehend the scale of the eruption.
I’ve been to the Mount Saint Helens observatory before, though. Looking at the mountain, you can’t tell it erupted before because it seems that the crater is still complete (that’s because it “regenerated”.) However, it’s quite interesting to watch a steady stream of smoke coming out of the crater as if it would erupt at any moment.
Hopefully though, this doesn’t happen, or I’m screwed :(.
For anyone who doesn’t know about this historic eruption, I suggest that you go watch a documentary or two on this or head to the Mount Saint Helens observatory.
